Our lives are shaped by connections. That’s something we from Deutsche Telekom have noticed a long time ago. That’s why today the T globally stands as a symbol for connections of all kinds especially the ones between people.
The mandatory basis for this is our environment. To make sure it won’t come short, we started an initiative with our sustainability programs #GreenMagenta and #GoodMagenta to help us make the world a better place, together.
We focus our activities in the context of sustainability on the two most important topics to us: environment and digital participation. Under #GreenMagenta we dedicate ourselves to topics that help save both our environment and our climate. What can we effectively change to save the basis of all our connections for us and future generations? #GoodMagenta on the other hand deals with positive contributions towards social issues like diversity, equality of opportunity, or inclusion.
For #GreenMagenta we have made a huge step by switching to 100% green power. As a company, we are fully aware of our responsibility towards our planet and that’s why all our 291 million customers are surfing in our green network since 2021.
But there’s more and the variety of activities under #GreenMagenta is divers and exciting. We efficiently save energy with SmartSpaces due to using sensor and actuating technology while our IoT Solution Optimizer helps us preserve resources through optimized lifecycle management for IoT solutions.
The two labels #GreenMagenta and #GoodMagenta also work as a certificate for our environmentally and socially aware products and initiatives. So, you can be sure that your choice helps you to have your part in saving our environment and making the world a little bit better.
The awarding of these certificates is clearly and transparently defined. Telekom employees can suggest products, services or measures that have the potential to have a positive impact on the environment or society.
Let’s have a closer look into our stores where plants filter the air and improve the indoor climate at the so-called Greenwall – a vertical plantation of interior surfaces. And due to our sustainable flooring made from renewable materials, we live to be grounded. The power on location is also green, of course and everything that leaves our stores is wrapped in reusable bags.
Which brings us to our products. Here, the #GreenMagenta concept continues and offers countless possibilities to achieve significant change.
Old, not used anymore smartphones can be given back to us, so we can refurbish and return them into the cycle of devices or reuse valuable raw materials. We even established our Mobile Phone Purchase Portal that helps our business customers save resources through the smartphone cycle. Smartphones of all kinds are later wrapped safely and climate-friendly in the sustainable cases from A Good Case.
Waste prevention is right at the top of our list. That’s why products like the “Speed Home WLAN” router are packaged plastic-free, the “Magenta TV Box” with packaging made from nature fibers, our telephones with paper and even the nice jelly sweets are handed out in compostable packaging. We’ve got a lot on our list – or should we say in our A Good Notebook, which is naturally and sustainably produced?
And what about #GoodMagenta? Here, we already started lots of measures that met with great response. Our project DIGITAL@School helps kids to manage their digital everyday life and supports a mature and self-determined usage of social media. AwareNessi playfully imparts knowledge and strengthens kids and teenagers against crime on the internet.
The initiative Media sure! But secure. goes into a similar direction. It’s all about a confident usage of the internet and identifying possible dangers and avoiding them along the way – to make the internet a safer place. Especially a place without hate and discrimination because that’s what the campaign #DABEI with civil courage stands up for. We believe that words must never become weapons and our 2022 campaign Together against hate on the internet impressively called for increased moral courage and acting for a web without hate.
The two labels #GreenMagenta and #GoodMagenta also work as a certificate for our environmentally and socially aware products and initiatives. So, you can be sure that your choice helps you to have your part in saving our environment and making the world a little bit better.
The awarding of these certificates is clearly and transparently defined. Telekom employees can suggest products, services or measures that have the potential to have a positive impact on the environment or society.
Our „Group Corporate Responsibility“ department then checks these proposals and assigns an expert’s board with the selection. Only if all requirements regarding ecological and social sustainability are fulfilled – and the board is really quite picky – the label will be awarded. That’s why it can take up to 12 months before the full examination process is completed. But even good Magenta things take their time and that’s why we tend to double check.
You see, we are already well on our way to not only making our digital world a little bit better. We have so many ideas left to explore, try out and implement. Preferably together with all of you.
